www.ask.com - Ask Jeeves This search engine combines the results of searching giants in one page. It puts the results into a list box for the searcher to pull down. It can be a great way to find hard
to find subjects. The only drawback to this site is a frame at the top of the page follows you around as you jump to the results. Ask Jeeves has a wonderful feature of looking up computer terms. For example, type
in CGI and one of the first links takes you to a dictionary definition.
www.ispcheck.com An internet service provider searcher. Gives you the skinny on price, minimum contract all sorted by speed. They have
everything from 14.4k to T3 lines to DSL lines. You could save a lot of money by using this site.
www.deja.com - DejaNews A forum for discussions. It pulls messages from a massive network called the
UseNet. If you have a technical question it may be answered here. At the very least you can find out that you are not the only one having the problem. Recently deja.com has been posting product reviews also.
They may be trying to become an on-line Consumer Reports.
www.pricewatch.com A forum for computer hardware resellers to post their lowest prices. The site sorts the hardware lists by cheapest price first. If
you want to build a computer go here. Most mail order shops require a credit card purchase. You can search by brand, name and category.
www.tomshardware.com - Tom's Hardware Guide If you are really into
hardware news this is the place. This guy knows his stuff. He goes to tech-shows and brings you the latest and greatest in the hardware world. He has a guide for sale on his website as well. He really gets
deep into the jargon, don't say I didn't warn you.
www.hotwired.com/webmonkey/ - Web Monkey Tutorials A collection of web authoring tutorials. How to pop up windows using javascript, how frames work and even HTML
coding. Step by step instructions are provided. They recommend a week to complete each tutorial. A great site. |
